Move To Patriot League Gets AU First Title In 42 Years American University's move to the Patriot League is paying off. The Eagles have their first men's basketball title of any kind in 42 years. American (16-10, 10-3) clinched the regular season crown in its first year in the conference with Wednesday night's 62-50 victory at Navy. It's the Eagles' first championship since they won the Division II Mason-Dixon Conference in 1959-60, which was also the last time they went to an NCAA tournament. The player leading the way, senior center Patrick Doctor, was one of several players who threatened to transfer when American announced it was switching from the Colonial Athletic Association to the Patriot League. |
